PRIMARY ELECTION 2021

YORK COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA

MAY 19, 2021

FROM: Jeff Piccola, Chair, YCRC

May 18th, Primary Election Day, was a great day for the York County Republican Committee. We nominated our two endorsed judicial candidates, Joe Gothie and Steve Stambaugh. We gave our Supreme Court nominee, Kevin Brobson, a great vote of almost 70%.  In the Central York School District, our recommended Real Republican Team handily beat the 4 cross-filed radical socialist Democrats and countywide the voters endorsed the two important ballot questions with an over 63% yes vote.

On the other hand, it was not such a great day in the history of York County Elections. We are all aware of the County Bureau of Elections’ failure to provide sufficient numbers of Republican ballots in a significant number of York County precincts. This was real voter suppression, and it was suppression of Republican voters on a scale I have never witnessed. I do not know if this was the result of intentional or incompetent behavior, but a failure of this magnitude requires accountability. Late on Election Day I directed our legal counsel, Jared Mellott, to go into court yesterday seeking relief but the court was not sufficiently responsive.

It is no secret that over a year ago I and others called for the firing the Elections Director, Steve Ulrich, a self-confessed radical, liberal, Republican hating, and Trump hating, Socialist Democrat, who was hired by the outgoing County Commissioners as their last act at the very end of 2019. Yesterday I renewed my call for his firing.

The York County Republican Committee is committed to honest and fair elections and we will make every effort to see to it that this kind of disenfranchisement of voters does not happen again.
