Voting rights are the foundation of a healthy democracy; our "physiological needs," if you will.

In a healthy democracy, voting is simple and accessible. No one has to wait in line for hours to vote, no one's ballot is thrown out for a sloppy signature, no one is illegally purged from a voting list.

It's only when we have a healthy, functioning democracy, that we can start to build on other needs. Those "needs" include policies that most Americans support – like free public tuition, paid family leave, and raising the minimum wage, for example.

However, to see those policies become reality, we need to address the monumental issue of voting rights first.
