Check out new ways to get involved! Dear Indivisibles,
Is it just us or does literally every day bring more and more news about how Donald Trump has used his access to foreign leaders to enrich himself at the expense of our national security and international alliances? We're kidding -- we know we're on the same page. The proof is in the pudding: Indivisibles across the country have risen to meet each and every one of these moments by calling their members of Congress and showing up to town halls, city halls and busy intersections to demand accountability.
So we know you'll be as excited as we are that we're be bringing back our Hubdialer (the tool that lets you call other constituents in key districts/states to urge them to take action) so that you can help others across the country join together at this pivotal moment. Be sure to keep an eye on your inbox for more details!
We also know that when the crimes are coming in this regularly, it can be tough to stay caught up on every single impeachable offense. That's where we come in (or to be more specific, our Director of Democracy Policy, Meagan Hatcher-Mays) with an all-new Impeachment Daily show (see link below) with the latest on Trump’s crimes and what you can do to pressure your member of Congress to hold him accountable.
But with all this going on, we don't want you to miss that we launched of our 2020 Congressional endorsements program! In 2018, Indivisibles put the entire weight of our movement behind exciting candidates who were looking to push more progressive policies through Congress, and this year won't be any different.
And now for your weekly to-dos:
Your 5 weekly to-dos
- Sign up to make some calls connecting voters to Senators to demand they commit to an open and fair impeachment trial. A fair and complete trial is literally the Senate's job, and it's critically important for us to make sure they do it right. You can volunteer from anywhere -- you just need a computer or tablet and a phone to make calls -- and we'll make sure you have everything else you need to contact voters. Can you commit to a few hours on the phones to help save our democracy? RSVP here.
- Check out impeachnow.org to find or plan an event near you. Members of Congress are still out on recess this week, which gives you even more chances to urge them to hold Trump accountable. We and our partners in the Impeach Now coalition have a website with all the tools you need to keep the pressure high -- make sure to click for more!
- Catch up on Impeachment Daily for all the latest news and strategy. Every day, Director of Democracy Policy Meagan Hatcher-Mays will be recording a video with everything you need to know to make a difference in the impeachment fight. Episodes 1-3 are now up on YouTube -- it’s must-see (online) TV.
- Read the updated 2020 endorsement guide! We’ve taken everything that Indivisibles across the country learned about making an endorsement in their 2018 races, and incorporated that into an updated version of the endorsement guide for you to use over the coming year. Give it a read to learn about why you should consider endorsing in your congressional race, why candidates care about winning your endorsement, how you can use the endorsement process to build your group’s power, and how to run an effective endorsement process locally.
- Tell your MoC to support improvements to the Democrats’ prescription drug price bill. House Democratic leadership released H.R. 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act of 2019, on September 19, 2019. While the bill was improved from what reports earlier in the summer suggested, there are still numerous provisions of the bill that should be strengthened before it reaches the floor. Tell your Representative to improve H.R. 3 by negotiating more drugs, and protecting patients from high launch prices and price spikes!
2020 Update
Last week, we started seeing some of the presidential candidates’ third quarter fundraising numbers. This week, we’re going to dig into what they mean, look forward to the next round of debates, and review some of the ambitious progressive policy proposals that we saw from campaigns last week:
- Third quarter fundraising shows progressive candidates outpacing the rest. Last week was the end of the third fundraising quarter for candidates, and the totals they’ve released so far show an undeniable trend: progressive candidates with a grassroots-first fundraising model are blowing away the rest of the field. Senator Sanders led the pack with a record $25.3 million raised, followed by Senator Warren with $24.6 million. No other Democrat cracked the $20 million mark this quarter, proving that progressives are able to generate the funding needed to take on Trump in the general.
- We’re gonna need a bigger stage… Next week is the fourth Democratic presidential primary debate (8:00 PM EST on Tuesday, Oct. 15)! The stage this time will feature twelve (yes, TWELVE!) candidates at once. All ten of the candidates from September’s debate will be returning, joined by Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and billionaire Tom Steyer. Check out our 2020 playbook to prepare!
- Labor plans made a splash last week. Both Senator Warren and Secretary Castro released ambitious labor plans, focused on supporting the most vulnerable communities. Warren’s plan includes revolutionary proposals like sector-level bargaining, while Castro’s works to uplift domestic workers and farmworkers. Check out both plans ahead of next week, and see how they factor into the debate on Tuesday.

What we're reading this week
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing previews of Chapter 1 from Leah and Ezra’s book, which is being published November 5th. Last week, we left off as we fell asleep on Election Night 2016, scared, angry, confused, and shocked—basically just totally lost…
The coming days were surreal. The next morning, the streets of D.C. were eerily quiet. People were sitting on the metro and walking around downtown with tears openly streaming down their faces. Our community of D.C. progressive policy friends were stunned. Like, deer-in-the-headlights-that’s-also-just-taken-a-brick-to-the-face stunned. This was supposed to be the crowd who knew stuff about policy and politics. But no one had answers and no one knew what was coming next.
And it wasn’t just D.C. Nationwide, excitement for the first female president had given way to horror at the prospect of a Trump administration. Not everyone on our side of the aisle was shocked: plenty of people, especially people of color, had been warning that a Trump victory was all too possible. But everyone was devastated.
To Be Continued… Next week, we’ll hear from some folks who would become Indivisible’s early group leaders.
You can read more about the book at https://act.indivisible.org/go/263979?t=21&akid=54082%2E1736305%2ERbRkZx and use the links at the top of the page to pre-order your copy.
We need your help to launch our call tool
Tomorrow, when we launch HubDialer, we’ll be leaning into what we call a “movement moment” -- a chance for us to grow our long-term power while we work to accomplish our immediate advocacy goals. As Indivisibles nationwide are generating thousands of calls to key Senators in support of a fair and transparent impeachment trial, they’ll also be bringing even more people into our work.
Tools like this one, and the time and effort Indivisibles invest in using them, have helped us do amazing things in the past -- things like taking back the House and winning the fight to protect Obamacare.
But such a powerful tool doesn’t come cheap. We’re spending $145,000 to make sure that Indivisibles and progressive activists all across the country get connected to their Senators now, when it matters most. We don’t take money from candidates or political parties, which means we rely on people like you to fund these critical tools --can you pitch in $10 right now to fund impeachment calls, the 2020 blue wave, and all of Indivisible Action’s work?
IndivisWin of the Week
Alright! Be sure to keep watch for new and exciting ways that you can get involved and hold Trump and his lackeys accountable. You can do that by getting the attention of your member of Congress, finding exciting candidates to support and endorse, and continuing to fight for the values that this movement cares about.
In solidarity, Indivisible Team
