Friend,
The need for an independent, bipartisan commission to get to the bottom of what happened on January 6th is obvious to pretty much anyone with a pulse.
And yet, Republican congressional leaders have come out in lockstep against it. Just now, Mitch McConnell announced he opposes the commission, signaling that it isn’t likely to get the 60 votes it needs to pass the Senate.
This is just pathetic. Republicans are resisting efforts to uncover the truth about how a violent mob attacked our Capitol — all because they already know it will expose how tangled up their party is in the Big Lie.
This won’t end until people start losing their jobs — that’s why our sights are set on the most dangerous, beatable members of the “Sedition Caucus.” Chip in right now and let’s end the careers of the Republicans putting our democracy in danger.
Meanwhile, some Republicans are trying to gaslight Americans about what actually happened on January 6th. One House member even compared the attack to a “normal tourist visit.” (The internet did a good job of digging up the photos from that day of that same member of Congress physically barricading a door.)
Look, they’re doing this because they know the truth is really, really bad. The person who has an iron grip over the Republican Party incited a riot, which got people killed and threatened our very democracy. And a whole bunch of Republicans who swore an oath to the Constitution helped him do it.
Now they are trying to cover it up.
We must have an independent investigation of what happened, and how. But today we learned that this madness won’t end there.
More soon — thank you, Amy
