Yesterday, I asked Big Pharma CEO Richard Gonzales to name the Nobel Laureate who invented the key molecule in his company’s highest-grossing drug, Humira.
He couldn’t — despite claiming over and over to care about innovation. Obviously “innovation” isn’t the real reason for Humira’s frequent price hikes, which mostly go towards lavish executive bonuses and enriching wealthy shareholders.
Saying NO to corporate PAC money is why I can ask hard-hitting and revealing questions to powerful CEOs like Richard Gonzales. If you’re able, can you chip in now so I can keep asking the hard questions and providing real oversight of anticompetitive industries like Big Pharma?
Humira is now priced at $2,984 per syringe, or $77,586 annually — a 470% increase from when the drug entered the market.
There’s no justification, despite Big Pharma CEOs who blow their horns about the importance of research and development. Medical advancements are vital, it’s true — but scientists like Greg Winter (that’s the inventor’s name, by the way!) aren’t raking in hundreds of millions. Big shot executives like Richard Gonzales are, by spiking our drug costs to unsustainable levels.
This fight isn’t over, so I’m asking: Can you support our grassroots movement so I can keep speaking up for the interests of workers and families, not Big Pharma and Wall Street? Even a $5 donation makes a big difference if we all pitch in.
