I want to make sure you saw the good news about Bob’s fight to build transparency, accountability, and equity in law enforcement:
ORIGINAL MESSAGE FROM TUESDAY, MAY 18, 2021:
Washington state currently does not have a centralized location where the public can find information on the use of deadly force by police officers. In fact, there is no legal requirement for law enforcement to report use of force incidents, even when they cause injury or death.
That’s why I’m pleased to announce that earlier today Governor Inslee signed our bill to create a public database of police use-of-force incidents. We worked with State Senator T’wina Nobles to put together this legislation that requires reporting and creates a database anyone can access.
Add your name if you agree: Washingtonians deserve transparency when it comes to how officers are using force to do their jobs →
Publicly accessible data is crucial. We brought community advocates and law enforcement together to pass this common sense reform.
Transparency, accountability, and equity must be the basis for any policy that addresses interactions between law enforcement and the communities they serve. I am committed to improving our criminal justice system to make all Washingtonians safer.
