Step 3
More people now eligible for vaccinations
A message from City Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Sally Longford:
sally longford
Vaccinations are now open to anyone aged 36 and over. Appointments can be booked online here [ [link removed] ] or by calling 119. The following groups of people are now eligible for the vaccination;
? Aged 36 or over, ? High risk from COVID-19? [ [link removed] ](clinically extremely vulnerable) ? Have a condition that puts them at higher risk (clinically vulnerable) ? Have a learning disability ? Are a frontline health or social care worker ? Get a Carer's Allowance, get support following an assessment by a local authority or GP record shows they?re a carer.
If you know someone who is yet to get theirs please offer your support to help them book if you can do so.
The vaccination remains our best option to beat the virus ? especially as we are seeing more cases of variants of concern in the city. Although the variant is highly transmissible, the vaccine is proving effective in preventing its spread. We do not want the new variant to hamper our recovery or slow our progress on the roadmap. Please get the vaccine as soon as you are eligible to do so ? and always remember ?Hands/Face/Space? and fresh air.

GreenSpace has launched in Nottingham
Greenspace
Last week saw the launch of GreenSpace, the Green Social Prescribing Programme for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, which is all about improving people's mental health by connecting them with nature. Green social prescribing is where GPs and other primary care professionals refer people to local, non-clinical nature-based activities to improve their physical and mental health. A green prescription could include joining a wellness walk along the Nottingham and Beeston Canal, growing vegetables in a community garden or taking a moment to enjoy one of Nottingham?s parks.

Many climate challenges are also health challenges and the relationship between biodiversity and wellbeing is become increasingly better understood. Protecting and encouraging biodiversity in the city is a key part of our Carbon Neutral Action Plan to create a more sustainable future and a nicer city to live in.

Walk to School Week
Walk to school week
This week is walk to school week - and with the weather starting to improve, this is a great opportunity to walk/cycle or scoot. The benefits are massive, apart from being better for health, active travel is better for our environment too, reducing air pollution caused by vehicle exhaust fumes ? meaning everyone can breathe cleaner air and enjoy a more pleasant, and safer, journey.
Need some inspiration? Why not sign up to Operation: School Run [ [link removed] ] our six-week walk to school challenge. The aim is to have a fun, active start to the day and explore your neighbourhood on the school run. Each Monday at 7am you?ll be sent a top secret mission for the week ahead. It will give you and your little ones fun tasks and challenges to complete on the way to school to get their feet and minds warmed up for the day. Sign up here [ [link removed] ].

?Bee Hotels? popping up around Nottingham ahead of World Bee Day
Bee hotel
Ahead of World Bee Day tomorrow I?m really pleased to see an additional ten ?hotels? for bees are going up in city neighbourhoods. Bees are becoming increasingly endangered and they are one of the major pollinators, contributing significantly to?reducing the severity of climate change. In the city, we are already working with partners to create habitats for these vulnerable creatures, as part of Nottingham City Council?s Bee Friendly initiative.
We are doing things like:
? Providing more flowers for foraging ? More habitats for nest sites ? Relaxed mowing ? Bee-friendly information packs for schools, plus much more.
?
I?d like thank Apprentice Joiner Carl Finn at Nottingham City Homes for creating these wonderful ??Air Bee 'n' Bees? and ahead of World Bee Day tomorrow, I would encourage everyone to think what they could do to encourage bees into their gardens. One option is ?No-Mow May,? which I?m doing at home.
