Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) plan to introduce a historic resolution to block the Biden administration’s attempt to give more US weapons to Israel. This is known as a joint resolution of disapproval (JRD) and is a technical legislative step that Members of Congress must take to stop a particular weapons sale from proceeding. This JRD is the first one we know of ever introduced to block weapons to Israel and is a landmark step toward accountability for Israel’s war crimes against Palestinians. We need to build as much support for it as soon as we can! As you may have seen, earlier this week news broke of the Biden administration notifying Congress of a “sale” of $735 million of joint direct attack munitions (JDAM’s) to Israel. These weapons make “dumb” bombs “smart” and are contributing directly to Israel’s devastation of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as we speak. We put “sale” in quotes because this is probably being financed by US taxpayers as part of the $3.8 billion in weapons we give to Israel each year. If Congress were to pass this joint resolution, the proposed sale would be blocked. Historic. Thank you for taking action. Sincerely,
