Celebrate APAHM with Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC by joining us for “Under-Told Asian American History” with the program coordinator of the Anti-Racial Profiling Project, Vivin Qiang, and our new director of The Asian American Education Project, Ting-Yi Oei!
Together, they will share some of their favorite pieces of under-told Asian American history and illustrate the importance of learning history to better understand the challenges we face today. Following the presentation, they will discuss current efforts to advocate for the inclusion of Asian American history in education curriculum and provide additional resources to get involved with their project’s work. An opportunity to ask questions will be provided at the end.

Vivin Qiang | Program Coordinator, Anti-Racial Profiling Project
Vivin received her M.A. in Development Studies with a concentration in Migration from The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, and holds a B.A. from Eureka College in Communications with a minor in International Relations. Prior to joining Advancing Justice | AAJC, Vivin worked in China with a global environmental nonprofit organization, where she supported the program’s overall communication strategy and engaged with Chinese communities in building conservation projects across urban neighborhoods.
Ting-Yi Oei | Director of The Asian American Education Project
Ting-Yi Oei is a lifelong educator and received a B.A. in History from Hamilton College and a MAT from Brown University. After his MAT, Ting-Yi went on to a 25-year career teaching social studies to middle- and high school students in Virginia’s public schools followed by 10 years as a high-school administrator in Fairfax County and Loudoun County. Prior to this position, he was the Education Director of the 1882 Foundation.

Danielle Wong | Multi-Media Strategic Communications Fellow
Danielle received her B.A. from the University of St. Thomas in Communications & Journalism. During her time in college, she was heavily involved in shaping diversity and equity policies and led several initiatives to advocate for women of color victim/survivors of sexual assault. Prior to joining Advancing Justice | AAJC, Danielle freelanced as a multi-media journalist for various organizations, including Minnesota Public Radio News’ mental health awareness program, Call to Mind.
