Surrey Heath News
Surrey Police Walkabout in Camberley: I recently had the pleasure of joining Surrey Heath Borough Commander, DI Alick James, and Chief Constable of Surrey Police, Gavin Stephens on a walkabout through Camberley. It was extremely helpful to learn how the approach to tackling crime locally has evolved as a result of the pandemic, and my thanks go out to those who have kept the streets of Surrey Heath safe despite the challenges brought on by the lockdown.
Traffic delays on the M3/A322 junction: At the end of April I held a further meeting with representatives from Highways England and Surrey County Council to discuss how the problems with congestion at the M3/A322 junction can be addressed. Initial work has taken place to establish options for larger strategic interventions that would reduce traffic at the junction, and it was great to have a chance to review and consider these options. We will now be reflecting on how we can make the case for future investment to the Department for Transport.
Noise pollution emanating from the M3: Surrey County Council and I have been pushing for mitigating measures for some time, and I am pleased to learn that plans to replant trees to act as a visual barrier are being pursued. Further to this, we will soon be approaching DEFRA to engage on the noise mapping process, and to explore the possibilities for future mitigation.
Visit to Lakeside Vaccination Centre: It was a delight to visit the Lakeside Vaccination Centre on 23rd April, and you can watch my update on Facebook here.
Meeting with Enterprise M3: I met virtually with Dave Axam and Kathy Slack from Enterprise M3 on 7th May, and I am hugely encouraged by the work the LEP is doing to generate economic growth in Surrey Heath. I look forward to catching up with Dave and Kathy again soon.
Ash Vale Station step-free access: I recently wrote to Network Rail to ask for an update on the progress being made on this project, and I was encouraged by the hard work being done to secure the necessary funding for these important improvements. I hope to meet with Andrew Haines, Chief Executive of Network Rail, in the coming months, and look forward to sharing an update in due course.
Local election results: You will all no doubt have been aware of the recent elections held on 6th May, and I wanted to thank everyone involved in Surrey Heath. Whether you were a candidate, volunteering, or simply voting, your contribution to the democratic process is invaluable and I am proud of and grateful to you all.
