You likely recall it was just March when Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced a lifting of the statewide ban on mask wearing, allowing all businesses to reopen to 100%. viewed by The New York Times as “surprising” in a state where vaccinations trailed the national average and more than 7,000 new COVID cases were being reported each day. Fast forward to the present. This week, the daily count of COVID deaths in Texas hit zero for the first time since the start of the pandemic, the AP and other news outlets reported. a new gubernatorial directive : on Tuesday, the governor announced that local governments statewide will be prohibited from requiring Texans to wear masks, or face fines for imposing them. Despite the CDC’s latest guidance approving those who are vaccinated to move about mostly mask-free, there are plenty of everyday folks concerned that we’re not out of the woods yet. We hope you enjoy the items in this week’s newsletter, and until next week, we’ll see you on the radio.
