My eighty-year old mother was harassed at the grocery store.

Tammy Duckworth

Senator Josh Hawley was the ONLY vote against the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act in the Senate, which aims to address the rise in hate crimes and violence against Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders.

He doesn’t care about Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders. He would never prioritize our safety over appealing to his right-wing base.

That’s why I am reaching out to ask:

Will you split a contribution between me and Josh Hawley’s eventual Democratic opponent — whoever that ends up being? I want his opponent to start on the strongest footing possible so we are sure to defeat this guy.

I’m not trying to hide it: I’m angry.

I’m angry that our former president stoked racism and xenophobia for years, using offensive terms like “Kung Flu” and “China Virus” to make people fear their Asian-American and Pacific Islander neighbors.

And I’m angry that I have to work every day in the Senate with Josh Hawley, a man who proved with his vote on this bill and his actions on January 6th, that he doesn’t care about me, my community or my family. My eighty year old mother was harassed at the grocery store recently just for going out in public to buy produce.

So yes, I am angry. But instead of sitting on my anger, I am doing everything I can to make sure Josh Hawley loses his next election. Will you join me?

Split a donation between me and Josh Hawley’s eventual Democratic opponent today. This is personal for me. I really hope you will chip in.

I also want to thank every other member of the Senate and House who voted in favor of this bill. We sent a powerful bipartisan message that America is not a hateful country. We are better than this.

All my best,

Tammy Duckworth
