Dear John:
Last week, C-Fam’s weekly Friday Fax reported on a new report from UNICEF. The report actually made the case that pornography can be good for children. You read that right.
It was among the most distasteful things I have ever read from UNICEF. Understand that UNICEF went off the rails a few decades ago, promoting abortion and other awful things.
But this report was something new. It cited a UK study that children are “neither upset nor happy.” Isn’t that odd? And disturbing. It went on to say that 39 percent of Spanish children were “happy” after seeing pornography.
The upshot of this UNICEF report is that blocking porn for kids is a violation of their human rights. Read that slowly. Blocking porn is a violation of the human rights for children.
The amazing news is that after we reported on this last Thursday, UNICEF immediately took it down. That’s right. UNICEF removed the report from their website, because of our report in the Friday Fax.
This demonstrates abundantly several things.
First, UN agencies closely read our work. Why? Because they know the Friday Fax is read closely by many UN delegations and government officials around the world.
Second, C-Fam follows UN work more closely than any other pro-family group.
Third, C-Fam sees things other groups do not see because we do this every day.
Fourth, C-Fam has real influence for change.
Now the bad news.
While UNICEF took the report down, it came back up within five days and it was edited! UNICEF changed a few footnotes and some verbiage to make this report more palatable to UN Member States, and to us. It still says substantially the same outrageous things.
And they still say withholding porn from kids violates their human rights.
C-Fam will report on this new edited version on Thursday, so watch this space.
In the meantime, is there any better reason to support our work than we brought a billion-dollar UN agency at least partially to heel?
The Friday Fax costs roughly $250,000 per year. This includes low salaries and health benefits for our staff. It includes rent for our two small, but expensive offices. It includes the significant cost of sending out 25 million emails a year!
Please help us keep after the bad guys. Help us to keep exposing them for what they are and what they do. I ask you to support us right now so we can keep the pressure on UNICEF and all the other nefarious UN agencies!
