The threats to independent contractors at the national level are heating up.
Last week, the Biden administration CANCELED a Trump-era labor rule that would have made it easier for workers to be classified as independent contractors.
Perhaps President Biden does not know that almost half of independent contractors would be out of the workforcealtogether if not for flexible work arrangements.
This is because the personal circumstances of many workers, such as caregiving and health issues, limit their ability to work in traditional jobs as full employees.
President Biden and his Labor Secretary Marty Walsh, who said recently that most gig workers should be employees, are either unaware or willfully ignoring the fact that independent workers say theyprefer flexibility in survey after survey.
Unfortunately, President Biden and his administration have thrown their weight behind the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act), which will push more workers to join unions... and destroy their flexibility and freedom to choose how they work, at a time when there is a dire labor shortage.
The PRO Act also will force independent workers to become full employees by making the job-killing California law, AB5, the law of the entire nation. The hardships of lost income, lost jobs, and closed businesses in California will reach every corner of our nation if the PRO Act is passed.
Our lawmakers need to know what PRO Act would do to your job, income, contracts, or business if passed.
