In case there was any doubt, the Colonial Pipeline shutdown made at least two things painfully clear:

1. Filling giant tubs with gasoline is a bad idea.
2. We can't rely on fossil fuel corporations to maintain America's energy infrastructure.

Let me elaborate on #2 real quick: After Colonial Pipeline, the nation's largest petroleum pipeline, had to shut down because of a ransomware cyberattack, the fossil fuel industry immediately started lobbying against cybersecurity requirements.

This isn't the first time in 2021 that corporate polluters have shown they can't be trusted with the future of American energy—or that they will always put their bottom line first. February's winter storm in Texas, combined with the state's failing fossil fuel infrastructure, led to a blackout that left millions of people without heat and water and dozens of people dead. Instead of doing right by Texans, fossil fuel corporations spent the aftermath of the disaster spreading lies and misinformation.

You may have experienced those blackouts or the effects of the Colonial Pipeline shutdown yourself. The stakes right now could not be clearer: If our government keeps letting the fossil fuel industry call the shots, tragedies caused by weak energy infrastructure and fossil-fuel-driven climate change are going to affect all of us.

But it doesn't have to be this way. By passing the American Jobs Plan, Congress can put millions of people to work building new clean energy infrastructure, loosening the fossil fuel industry's grip on our lives.

Congress needs to hear from all of us, loud and clear. Sign our petition today to join in our urgent demand: Congress must pass the American Jobs Plan so we can reduce the threats posed by risky fossil fuel corporations and build a robust, resilient clean energy economy.
