Texans have until June 15, 2021 to file their tax returns due to the winter storms earlier this year. As your Congressman, I am here to help you navigate tax season and make sure you are aware of all of the tax credits available.

Expanded Tax Credits for Families
In Congress, I helped to pass the American Rescue Plan, critical relief that is already helping our economy recover from the COVID-19 slowdown by putting more money in pockets. Under the American Rescue Plan, the Child Tax Credit was expanded for most families, from $2,000 to $3,600 for children under age 6 and to $3,000 for children ages 6 to 17. Free Tax Prep
Folks who earn less than $57,000 per year, have a disability, speak limited English, or are over 60 years old, can visit the IRS website for information on the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program. To find IRS-certified volunteers across North Texas who can help with tax preparation and filing, visit: irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep. Additionally, if your income is $72,000 or below, you can file your taxes for free using the IRS’ Free File program. 

Pandemic Relief Checks
Congress passed three rounds of pandemic relief checks. If you are still waiting on any of your payments, you can check the IRS Get My Payment tool to track yours.
