The Supreme Court just agreed to consider Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health, a case challenging Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban. This is urgent: the case will be a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade.
This decision could have massive implications for Americans because one in four women have had an abortion — and I am one of them.
I know firsthand what a profoundly personal choice getting an abortion is and the importance of an individual's right to decide whether or not to have one for themselves — regardless of income or what state they live in.
I unapologetically stand with the vast majority of Americans on both sides of the aisle who firmly believe that the right to safe, legal abortion care must be protected. That's why I'm asking: Can you split an urgent contribution of $3 or whatever you can afford between our campaign and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund today to help us defend the right to choose?
I am fortunate to live in a state where pregnant people's right to make choices about their own bodies is protected, where so many less fortunate than me can still afford to have abortions without encountering barriers like forced counseling and waiting periods. The network around me helped me exercise my own choice rather than imposing someone else's views on me.
For me, terminating a pregnancy was not an easy choice, but it was my choice. And that is what must be preserved for every person.
Congress must recommit to removing barriers to care and defending a person's constitutionally protected right to make their own choices about their own bodies. That can start with the Women's Health Protection Act that I helped to introduce to create a safeguard against abortion bans and medically unnecessary restrictions. Then the work must continue by protecting our Senate majority so that Mitch McConnell doesn't control which justices get on the Supreme Court.
The battle to protect reproductive rights may feel exhausting, but we must never stop. I assure you that I never will.
In solidarity,
Pramila
