** The way forward is public transport
------------------------------------------------------------
Hello
As we emerge from the Covid crisis, will our roads fill with ever more cars? Or can we build a brighter transport future – one that is greener and fairer, that gives us cleaner air and leaves our environment in a better condition for future generations?
In the UK, transport is the largest single cause of carbon emissions and harmful air pollution - and there's a danger that this will get worse, with people driving for more journeys.
If public transport is allowed to dwindle, the other risk is that people will be left behind. A quarter of households in England do not have access to a car, so for many people public transport is key to living a full life, and without that key lockdown won’t fully end.
So tomorrow we are launching a new campaign, The way forward is public transport ([link removed]) . If you'd like to be one of the first people to join the campaign, we'd love to have you on board!

** For a brighter transport future, the Government must back public transport
------------------------------------------------------------
We're calling on the Government to continue funding public transport and invest in making it better, more convenient and more affordable. We want it to reconnect communities by reopening rail lines closed under the Beeching cuts. And as travel opens up, we want the Government to fly the flag for public transport, encouraging people back on board and bringing in tickets that suit new work patterns. You can help by emailing your MP using our quick form.

Diane Just because we are mature does not mean we should not have access to public transport... public transport means we can continue to get out and enjoy our lives.
Diane, Coventry
We have a lot of things planned for the campaign, including meeting MPs at a fabulous double-decker bus emblazoned with campaign messages. Please do look out for the campaign on social media from tomorrow and help us to spread the word.
Thank you and good evening
Paul
Paul Tuohy, Chief Executive, Campaign for Better Transport
P.S. People from all nations are invited to join the campaign, but it is aimed at the Westminster Government. As transport is a devolved matter this means the campaign is most relevant to people in England.
