John --
It's been just over three years since the United States withdrew from the JCPOA, an agreement that traded in crushing sanctions harming ordinary Iranians for far-reaching nuclear restraints that reduced the risk of war.
Since Trump made the reckless decision to renege on the deal:
- The U.S. and Iran moved to the brink of war twice;
- Iran's nuclear program dramatically escalated;
- Ordinary Iranians suffered under crippling sanctions amid a global health crisis; and
- U.S. credibility needed to resolve tensions with Iran through diplomacy has been greatly weakened
Unfortunately, the devastating conflict we have witnessed over the past week between Israelis and Palestinians is what happens when extremists choose military confrontation over diplomacy. We need more forceful diplomacy, not less, and must continually stand up for peace over war.
But the Iranian-American community, backed by our pro-peace partners and pro-diplomacy allies in Congress, has shown up at every turn. And thanks to your support, we secured a campaign commitment from President Biden to return to the JCPOA.
Now four months into the Biden administration, the U.S. and Iran are making halting progress toward restoring the deal in Vienna. This renewed momentum is encouraging, but the reality remains that there are enormous obstacles to be overcome to ensure the deal is not once again sabotaged. From warhawks in Congress to right-wing organizations determined to thwart diplomacy, our work is cut out for us in the months to come, even if and when the deal is restored.
Will you help us build on this recent momentum, John, by donating today? Just $10 will give us the resources needed to continue the advocacy work needed to put us back on diplomatic track with Iran.
