"None of us got where we are solely by pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps. We got here because somebody -- a parent, a teacher, an Ivy League crony or a few nuns -- bent down and helped us pick up our boots."
-- Thurgood Marshall

Let us know who inspires you today, John >> [link removed]

John,

When Thurgood Marshall was appointed to the Supreme Court 52 years ago, he was more than just the first African American Supreme Court Justice this country had ever seen. Justice Marshall was a distinguished civil rights lawyer who won a remarkable 29 of the 32 cases he argued before the Supreme Court of the United States.

Not only did he pave the way for countless African American leaders -- including a president (!!!) -- but he is also responsible for the landmark Brown v. Board of Education ruling. Justice Marshall spent his life fighting against discrimination and fiercely protecting the constitutional rights of the most vulnerable among us.

Inspired by brave and effective leaders like Justice Marshall, Dwight became a politician to make a real difference in people's lives. From ensuring folks with pre-existing medical conditions have access to affordable health care, and ensuring Philly kids have the resources they need to learn and succeed, to jumpstarting the necessary and oft-delayed conversation about reparations, Dwight's spent his entire life in public service advocating for the voices that have been ignored for too long.

So now we want to know who inspires you, John. Whether it's someone in your life or a well-known public figure, we would love to hear about which leader you admire most and why.

Justice Marshall is only one of the inspiring leaders who paved the way for Dwight, as well as keeps our gas tank full when the rigors of a corrupt Washington start to weigh on our spirits. Whether it's Frederick Douglass, Lyndon Johnson, Shirley Chisholm, or the Reverend Leon Sullivan, we are so blessed to be standing on their shoulders each and every day.

John, we look forward to hearing your story soon. We might even share our favorites in an email or social media post later this month. After all, we could all use a little inspiration to keep fueling our fight for life-changing progressive victories in 2019 and beyond.

Thanks,
