“Sorry, no one came to work today.”
“We are short staffed, please be patient.”
“No one wants to work anymore.”
I’m sure you’re seeing the
same social media posts and news articles that I’m seeing: waves of
service workers leaving their low-paying jobs via paper signs taped to
doors.
I want to be extremely clear about this: Service workers are skilled
workers and they deserve a livable wage. Period.
And when workers demand a $15/hr wage, they're not asking for charity.
They’re not asking for philanthropy. They’re asking for justice.
Workers should be paid the value of their work and their time. And it’s a
disgrace that 32 million workers aren’t even making $15/hr – a wage that
in most major cities, isn’t even a livable wage anymore.
[ [link removed] ]That’s why I’m leading the fight in Congress to increase the minimum
wage to at least $15/hr. If you support this fight, please chip in
whatever amount you can afford today.
All
workers deserve to be able to provide for their families without needing a
second job or cutting corners on necessities. And it’s wrong that it’s
been over 12 years since the federal minimum wage was last raised.
It’s no surprise that workers across the country are mobilizing for a
higher minimum wage. We, as progressives, should aim to stand arm in arm
with service workers in their fight for a livable wage. It’s not only the
right thing to do, but it’s the just thing to do.
[ [link removed] ]If you support these frontline workers, if you support their families,
if you support this fight for justice, please chip in $3 or
whatever you can afford today.
