John,
In 2013, we launched our 7 year plan to flip Virginia blue. The Democratic establishment said it was impossible. We did it anyway -- and flipped it in 6 years instead.
In 2017, we started organizing to flip Georgia blue supporting Stacey Abrams for Governor on day one. Again, the democratic establishment said it was impossible. A democrat couldn't win statewide, especially not a progressive Black democrat. We did it anyway -- and in just 3 years, with the statewide victory for Biden in November followed by the victories of Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff in January. We'll finish the job in 2022 by defeating Brian Kemp for Governor and reelecting Warnock statewide.
Now it's 2021, and we're at it again. We've put the entire South in our sights.
We're ready to do the work needed to not just hold Virginia and finish the job in Georgia; we're ready to launch our multi-year, multi-candidate long-term strategy to turn North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, and even Alabama blue.
Once again, the democratic establishment says it's impossible. And again, we're going to do it anyway -- with your help.
You provide the critical resources we need day after day to deliver results and win. We don't get millions from foundations. We're not funded by billionaires or corporate lobbyists. We depend on a nationwide network of real people contributing what they can to make it happen $5, $10, $50 dollars at time. Can I count on you to donate what you can right now?
When I was just in New Orleans with our team knocking doors for a DFA endorsed candidate, it was incredible the rate at which people opened their doors. Voters in the neighborhoods we hit were neglected and under-served. Candidates don't engage them or if they do, it's only at the last minute right before Election Day.
That's why so many people opened their doors and wanted to talk. Most of the time, we didn't even have to knock! They were out on their porches already enjoying the beautiful weather, watching over the neighborhood and eager to be involved.
That's why I also know... Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina... These states can flip too!
The South has only been a Republican stronghold for so long because candidates and organizations aren't talking to the voters who reliably turnout for Democrats. I’m talking about the New American Majority of Black and brown voters.
Think about all the possibilities there are in the South. It is ripe for flipping for Democrats. It's possible in these states just like it was possible in Georgia and Virginia before we flipped them.
These states would flip if we could just organize and activate those voters. And that's the problem. Few large national organizations are doing it.
But we are and, with your help, we can take it to the next level.
If money were no object, we would have staffers on the ground today, registering voters and knocking doors in every state. We'd be exposing Republicans for attempting to silence voters and make it tougher to vote. We'd be promoting Biden's successes and our progressive vision for the future.
We must build the organizing infrastructure needed to flip these states, and we know that with the resources to do it, the dream of flipping the South will become a reality. Will you contribute today to help us build up our organizing infrastructure in the South?
DFA members have already done so much to protect our democracy and support our work. We would not have won this past election without the support of generous people like you in the progressive movement.
There is no such thing as an off-year election. Now is the time to be ambitious and ramp up our efforts, not take a vacation.
It’s time to throw out the old playbook and imagine what could be if we thought outside the box and focused our energy in the right places.
That's why we're dreaming big and fighting hard to flip the South, because working together, we can lead America forward to a better future for all.
Thank you so much for your continued support of DFA's work. Keep believing and dreaming.
