John —

In a minute, I’ll ask you to add a donation to my campaign for Lt. Governor as we approach the final, critical weeks of this primary. [[link removed]] But first, I want to share a story with you. It’s long, but important — and I hope you will take the time to read it.

I was 24 years old and working at a gas station when I found out I was pregnant. I was young, scared, and had no health insurance.

At the hospital, I faced life-threatening complications and I wasn’t sure if my son and I would survive the night — thanks to Medicaid, we did.

When Donald Trump was elected President of the United States, I knew I had to do something because the communities and institutions — like Medicaid — that helped my families through those difficult times would be under attack.

So, I did the only thing I could: I quit my job, cashed in my retirement savings, and ran for the Virginia House of Delegates. It wasn’t easy — my bank account balance was just $68 when we won that race! — but I can say with full confidence that it was worth it.

I was elected as part of a Blue Wave that wiped out the Republican supermajority in the State House. And once we took the majority, we got to work delivering on our promises — including expanding Medicaid for 500,000 Virginians.

Now, the people of Virginia once again have a choice. We simply can't afford Republican leadership that will strip away affordable care and essential protections for folks with pre-existing conditions.

In the House, I stood up against their attacks and passed progressive laws, but this fight isn’t over yet — more than 700,000 Virginians still do not have access to health insurance.

As Lt. Governor, I'll ensure we continue our progress by further expanding Medicaid, lowering prescription drug prices, and ensuring that every Virginian has access to care no matter their zip code — but I need your help getting there.

Will you chip in toward my campaign for Lt. Governor so we can win this race and can continue fighting to ensure all Virginians have access to quality, affordable health care?
