Dear friend,
As you’ve likely heard, we learned yesterday that the Supreme Court will hear a case from Mississippi that offers a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade. This is not good news.
This is exactly why we work at the state and local levels: to protect and expand reproductive freedom, including access to abortion care, even if the Supreme Court won’t.
Multiple states have already passed abortion bans this year, and at least ten states have laws in place to ban all or nearly all abortions if Roe is overturned. States have been, and will continue to be, the battleground for access to care.
At NIRH, we are actively working in states like New Jersey to pass expansive laws that protect reproductive freedom and partnering with local advocates in cities like Louisville, KY to pass clinic safety ordinances to ensure that people have access to the reproductive health care they need. Protecting abortion access at the state and local levels is what NIRH was built to do.
As we face this escalated threat against Roe, you can be sure that we are working hard to prepare states to protect access to reproductive freedom -- with or without Roe.
Can you support NIRH’s work at the state and local levels? [link removed]
Let’s be clear: Roe is the floor and not the ceiling for protecting our reproductive freedom. Even if Roe is upheld, we must continue to fight for real access to abortion care for all -- and this is what NIRH intends to do in states and cities across the country.
