John, I am Representative Barbara Bessette -- I served with Tom in our state legislature this last session, and I am proud to be supporting his campaign for Congress. This year I was one of a record number of Native American lawmakers serving in the Montana State House. Tom and I worked together closely on a variety of critical issues that affected the Indian Caucus. Tom was my seatmate on the House floor, and I was truly inspired by how much he cares about creating change for the people of Montana. He was a huge help in passing two vital pieces of legislation for some of our most underserved communities. Together we addressed substance abuse treatment and improved physical and mental health care services for veterans. As a legislator, Tom has always made health care a top priority. This is extremely important to ALL Montanans, including our Native American communities in both urban and rural parts of our state. Many Native American and rural communities here are chronically underinvested in and lack access to healthcare that is necessary to thrive and prosper. Our entire state has heart-breakingly high suicide rates, and they continue to climb - especially on our reservations. This needs to be a top priority for our elected representatives. As a Congressman, Tom will allocate federal resources to reservations and all underserved communities, creating access to on-the-ground mental health professionals. Additionally, Tom cares about ending violence against women. The crisis of missing and murdered indigenous women (MMIW) needs to be addressed. Tom will make this, domestic violence prevention, and reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act a priority when in office. This is why I am supporting Tom this election cycle, and I urge you to do the same. Representative Barbara Bessette
