This week, I'm going to "movies in the park" to spread out my picnic blanket, order from a local food truck, watch the sunset over the water and catch one of my all-time favorite rom-coms with dozens of other people in my community.
In honor of summer movie vibes, check out my colleague Kristen Hare's roundup of recent films and short documentaries about local news. If you're inspired by the journalists featured, keep scrolling to up your game with Poynter.

Summit for Reporters and Editors |
Online group seminar, July 1-17
"The Summit came at a fantastic time for me, since I was starting a senior editor job that was new to me and to our evolving newsroom," said Cheryl Saenz, editor at large for Bloomberg Industry Group and a graduate of Poynter's Summit for Reporters and Editors. "We needed to update how we present news for our law, policy and business readers, and the Summit gave me the tools to think more broadly about stories, visuals, and social media. I use what I learned every single day when I’m working with reporters to define and craft stories, and the emphasis on narrative absolutely makes our work more compelling."
Now online, Poynter’s annual Summit for Reporters and Editors fosters collaboration, stokes innovation, and helps journalists thrive both professionally and personally.
Like reporters and editors who have graduated from this program in the past, you'll learn from co-leaders Tom Huang and Jacqui Banaszynski. Guest instructors include Maria Carrillo and Kathleen McGrory from the Tampa Bay Times. New this year, you will book a private, one-on-one coaching session to talk through your career hurdles and opportunities with a faculty member.
Cost: $450.
