The Texas 10-Day Rule lets a hospital committee decide if you live or die. The law only gives you 10 days' notice of this impending imposed death.

The bill to repeal the deadly 10-Day Rule is running out of time to finally become law! Your help is urgently needed to bring the Respecting Texas Patients’ Right to Life Act (SB 917) to a vote on the Senate floor.

But without YOUR courage now, countless moms, dads, children, and grandparents will be forced into this deadly 10-day countdown until we change this law. Now is our only chance.

The 10-Day Rule threatens every Texan and every family.

If you’re nervous about calling your state senator, read these stories of folks just like you who were victimized by this horrible law:

Carolyn was a wife and mother from Beaumont whose ventilator was removed on the 10th day of the countdown in May 2019, despite her husband and daughter advocating fiercely on her behalf. When she miraculously survived, the law denied her the dialysis treatment on which she depended. Without dialysis, she would have died as toxins built in her bloodstream. Texas Right to Life helped discharge her and took her in a private ambulance to a new hospital so she could receive dialysis.

Baby Tinslee was nine months old when Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth sought to remove her ventilator over her mother’s objections by using the 10-Day Rule. Because patient advocates stepped in to file a lawsuit, Tinslee turned two years old in February and is continuing to grow and improve while she waits for the case’s final outcome.

Lucy, a beloved mother and devout Catholic, was subjected to the 10-Day Rule to remove her ventilator after suffering a cardiac arrest and brain injury. Thankfully, her daughter called patient advocates to intervene. Less than a week after the hospital chose not to begin the countdown, Lucy was transferred to a nursing home where she lived for nearly a year before passing away peacefully.

These stories prove that in the absence of a countdown, patients and families benefit.
