Monday Nature Mystery
We are pleased to announce the winner of last week's Monday Nature Mystery, Anne Marie Moore! Please email us your snail mail address and preference for a hat or tote bag to: [email protected]
Anne Marie correctly identified the song of Scarlet Tanager (Piranga olivacea). This brilliantly colored bird is a summer breeder in our area. Listen for it’s call note: ‘chick-burr.' Before they head back to their overwintering grounds in South America, the males will molt and their brilliant red feathers become a dull yellow-green color. To learn more about Scarlet Tanagers, visit our good friends at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
