We have some news for you John: we just barely missed our mid-month fundraising goal.

This isn't the news we wanted to share with you on a Monday, especially when our campaign is counting on early investments to win. We missed our goal by $1,927 -- meaning we're not where we need to be to hit our monthly fundraising goal. To make up for it, we've extended our mid-month deadline to midnight TONIGHT.

Read Laura's message below about the importance of early investments in our race, then rush a donation of $5 or more right away to help us hit our $15,000 goal before our new deadline at midnight.

Subject: I hope you'll give me a moment to explain

Hello,

My team has been sending a lot of fundraising emails lately, and I just wanted to take a moment to explain why they're so important. This email is a little on the long side, but I hope you'll give me a chance to explain.

Early investments in any campaign are important. The money we raise early on can often have a bigger impact than a last-minute surge in donations a few weeks before an election. Early money helps us make a plan to win -- and gives us an idea on how we can afford it.

Everything from voter outreach, running our email program, hosting campaign events, and building a volunteer program costs money. Our opponents are gearing up to bring back Sam Brownback-era policies that destroyed our state so starting these programs early on gives us a leg up.

But here's the deal: there's a lot on the line in 2022 -- the future of Medicaid expansion, our economy, and a fully-funded public education system. We've built a strong grassroots team, but we're gearing up for our toughest fight yet.

It's not going to be easy, especially when Inside Elections, Cook Political Report, The Kansas City Star, AND Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight are all calling me one of the most vulnerable Democrats up for re-election in 2022. I know that's not the best news to share with you, but it's important that we run an honest and transparent campaign.

On Sunday, we're facing our May mid-month fundraising deadline and we set a goal to raise $15,000 to keep our campaign on track to win. We're off to a good start, but we need to make sure we keep up our momentum if we're going to reach Kansans across the state.

We already defied the odds when we took back this seat in 2018, and we can do it again in 2022, but I can't win without your help. Pitch in $5 or more right away to help us hit our $15,000 fundraising goal before our Sunday deadline.
