On Friday, Colorado Democratic leadership killed SB-062 to placate police organizations instead of listening to communities across the state calling for an end to racialized policing. SB-062 was written to reduce the number of people in jail by reducing what people could be arrested for in this state--and save lives for those who are most likely to be harmed by interactions with police. After a year of uprisings and community calls to defund and abolish police, killing this bill is shameful. This isn't even the first bill they killed in 2021! Democratic leaders in the state also killed SB21-182, which was intended to end the school to prison pipeline in our state. We cannot let the state's leadership only hear cop voices. We need community members to reach out today.
Members of the Denver chapter have been fighting alongside the Colorado Freedom Fund and other local organizations to get this legislation passed--and we need your help to make Colorado's Democratic leadership pass the remaining legislation.

In 10 minutes, you can share your support for SB21-273 (the replacement for SB-062), HB21-1280 (a bill to require a bond hearing within 48 hours of arrest), and SB21-071 (a bill to end cash bail for children).
