The Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA) Board of Directors is hosting a town hall meeting, on Zoom, on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, from 6-7pmCT/8-9pmET/4-6pmPT.  
The town hall will provide insights and implications about the challenges the American-Muslim community faces regarding issues with U.S. national security law.  

A fireside chat will be featured with Dr. Hatem Bazian, MLFA Board member and Nihad Awad, National Executive Direct, CAIR.  Topics will include perspectives on current events, the first 100 days of the Biden-Harris administration and what American-Muslims should expect to see on issues of surveillance, entrapment cases and federal legislation intended to deal with “countering violent extremism.” (CVE).   

The town hall will include an update on the legal cases MLFA has funded this past year and its strategic priorities for continuing its mission to advance equality and justice for American Muslim organizations and individuals.  

The town hall will be moderated by Hatem Bazian, Ph.D., Professor of Islamic Law and Theology at Zaytuna College and founder of the Islamophobia Research and Documentation Project at the Center for Race and Gender. Other speakers will include Arshia Ali-Khan, Interim Chief Executive Officer of MLFA; Shariq Siddiqui, Ph.D., J.D., Director and Afshan Paarlsberg, J.D., Senior Attorney from the Muslim Philanthropy Initiative at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, and Sufia Khalid, LLM,  Legal Fellow, at the Constitutional Law Center for Muslims in America.
