Muni Subway Reopening - Central Subway Tour Winners -
Restoring Muni service with Julie Kirschbaum - Carnaval

Muni Subway Reopening!

On Saturday SFMTA reopened all of its Muni Metro subway stations with the return of rail service on the N Judah and KT Ingleside-Third routes. In addition, they brought back San Francisco’s historic streetcar route - the F Market & Wharves - and added a new bus route: the 36/52 Special, serving the hilltop neighborhoods of Forest Hill, Miraloma and Sunnyside.

We're thrilled to see the return of the subway, replete with new wayfinding signs, art installations, and Wi-Fi! The return of the light rail to the N and KT lines also frees up bus that were being used as light rail shuttles for increased service elsewhere. However, many routes remain indefinitely suspended. San Francisco Transit Riders is continuing to call for a plan to restore 100% of pre-pandemic service. We look forward to the subway reopening and 36/52 route being the first of many service increases riders need in the coming months.

Congratulations to our Central Subway Winners!

Congratulations to Nicki Peternel, Richard Gross, Robert Frank, and Annmarie Wong for winning spots on our Central Subway tour by winning our member raffle or signing up the most new SF Transit Riders members in April. Thanks to their help - and yours - we signed up over 100 members as part of Membership Month in April and raised over $16,000! Members give us the political power to speak up for riders across the city. Thanks to the support of all our new and renewing members last month, we'll be able to strengthen our campaign to push for full Muni service restoration.

Restoring Muni Service with Director of Transit Julie Kirschbaum

How will we encourage people to return to Muni? What bus lines have been restored and why haven't others? Will - and should - our transit system look the same post-pandemic?

Come hear from SFMTA Director of Transit Julie Kirschbaum about how SFMTA plans to slowly restore service and what barriers are stopping us from a full return to pre-pandemic service.

Join us at Carnaval!

Now in its fourth decade of celebration, Carnaval San Francisco cultivates and celebrates the diverse Latin American, Caribbean and African Diasporic roots of the Mission District and the San Francisco Bay Area. With live dance, music, visual arts and spaces for community learning, school–based education, and advocacy, this isn't an event you'll want to miss.

San Francisco Transit Riders staff and volunteers will be tabling at Carnaval all weekend - May 29th and 30th - and we're looking for folks to join us as we talk to folks about their experience riding Muni and how we can improve transit here in San Francisco. Hope to see you there!
