While Dem AG Herring has been fighting for progress, his opponent has been cozying up to the fringes of the GOP.
Friend, Virginia could end up with a pro-Trump extremist as their next Attorney General – unless we all come together to defeat Jason Miyares.
ICYMI: Delegate Miyares is Virginia’s Republican AG nominee and a staunch opponent of Medicare expansion, gun safety measures, and urgent justice reforms. He’s also buddies with right-wing leaders like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
The GOP is working overtime to reclaim Virginia as a true-red state – that includes Cruz, who entered the fray to help turn Virginia’s governorship red for the first time in over a decade. And with Virginia being the only statewide AG race of the year, Republicans are going all in.
VA GOP AG Nominee Jason Miyares with extremist Sen. Ted Cruz
While Dem AG Mark Herring has been working with community leaders and activists to improve our lives, Miyares has been cozying up to Cruz, a man who tried to throw out Biden’s electoral votes mere hours after January’s deadly insurrection – showing zero regard for the health of our nation, our democracy, or even his colleagues.
Cruz and Miyares are united by the same harmful, right-wing dogma that puts our lives at risk – like opposing life-saving and commonsense gun safety measures.
When AG Herring was earning endorsements from the Brady PAC, Giffords, and the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, Miyares was voting against universal background checks and red flag laws – commonsense policies that command bipartisan support.
It’s clear that Miyares and Cruz are on the fringes of the GOP, out-of-step with public opinion and their own party. Just last month, Cruz was (initially) one of six senators to oppose a recent bill addressing anti-Asian American hate crimes.
Meanwhile, AG Herring created Virginia’s Office of Civil Rights from the ground up and modernized Virginia’s definition of a hate crime. It’s clear which candidate is right for the job, but with the GOP willing to spend big and play dirty, we have to fight back even harder.
