Over the past year, students — in the Massachusetts 7th and across the
country — have endured trauma and anxiety as a result of the COVID-19
pandemic. Their lives have been profoundly disrupted, and many have lost
teachers, family members, or loved ones.

Yet, the U.S. Department of Education has been reluctant to grant state
waivers for standardized testing.

We can’t force our students into standardized testing as though this has
been a year like any other, and we must give parents, teachers, and
students a clear option to opt-out of standardized testing in response to
the pandemic.

the Biden administration to issue opt-out waivers for standardized testing

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives,
exacerbated food, housing, and economic insecurity, and widened the deep
inequities already facing many students in our public education system.

We must do everything in our power to help our students heal, not add more
stress and hardship by requiring standardized tests — which have
historically discriminated against Black and brown students, and students
who are under-resourced.

That’s why Ayanna is partnering with Rep. Jamaal Bowman and others to
stand in solidarity with educators and students nationwide.

Education to protect students from the unnecessary burden of
federally-mandated standardized testing?

Thank you for taking action,

The A-Team
