CALL TO ACTION ALERT!

Call Your State Legislators TODAY and Tell them  You Want VOTERS To Decide Whether to Expand Casino Gambling

In 2018, Democratic Activists throughout the state supported Amendment 3 (Voter Control of Casino Gambling) because we felt that the final decision to expand gambling in Florida should rest with the voters and not with legislators in Tallahassee. This amendment had broad bipartisan support and passed with nearly 72% approval from Florida voters.

Starting today, the legislature will meet in a special session to discuss and vote on a package that, if passed, would be the largest expansion of casino gambling in Florida’s history.

Gambling interests are working overtime to encourage our elected officials to approve a deal that would expand sports betting statewide, permit online sports betting, and includes a provision to allow full online gambling within the next 3 years. Moreover, the compact lays the groundwork for the transfer of existing pari-mutuel licenses to new locations in Miami Dade and Broward and could pave the way for a gambling license for the Trump owned Doral Golf Club.

All of this would happen without voter approval!

Sen Dan Gelber, Mayor of Miami Beach is urging full rejection of the proposal calling it "bad" and "illegal".

The Orlando Sun Sentinel - “Florida politicians have given up even trying to hide their contempt for citizen-led amendments to the state Constitution” and says,  “much of this proposed deal could be a direct violation of the voter-approved, constitutional mandate that casino gambling expansion must be approved through referendum.”

The Tampa Bay Times - “only  the voters should decide on whether to legalize sports betting.”

The Miami Herald - “this deal runs roughshod over the voters.”

Our State Legislature begins meeting today. Please make sure they hear from you!
