[May is Mental Health Awareness Month]([link removed])
We’re halfway through [Mental Health Awareness Month]([link removed]), and it’s important that we all do our part in promoting the concept of #MentalHealth4All. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s award-winning Seize the Awkward campaign, in partnership with The Jed Foundation and the Ad Council, reminds teens and young adults that supporting the mental health of themselves and their friends is an ongoing process – a particularly important message as they experience the continual impact of COVID-19.
Keeping in mind the particular challenges faced by young adults due to the pandemic, Seize the Awkward is releasing an original, four-part video series on Instagram featuring AFSP’s Vice President of Mission Engagement Dr. Doreen Marshall and Dr. Wenimo Okoya of The Jed Foundation, offering tips to help 16-24-year-olds spot the signs of a friend who may be struggling, ways to reach out and start a conversation, and tools to follow up. Popular TikTok and Instagram creators, including Bryce Xavier, Dani Donovan, Elle Winter, GegetheJing, Joyce Wert and Shahem, and musical group lovelytheband, will also be sharing original content encouraging you adults to check in on each other’s mental health.
But that’s not all! We have brand new Seize the Awkward sharable goodies for download on [SeizetheAwkward.org]([link removed]) including GIFS, social media stickers, lenses and filters, that make it fun and easy for young adults to support each other, and promote the message of #MentalHealth4All. We hope you’ll join us on social media and share ways to have a conversation about mental health with the young people in your life, and everyone you care about.
