John —
There’s a billion-dollar industry in America that enjoys a legal liability shield no other industry has — and it’s because they’ve got a powerful lobby that cares more about the money they make than public safety.
I’m speaking, of course, about the gun industry. Thanks to the likes of the NRA, there is a 2005 federal law protecting the gun industry from any legal liability and silencing the voices of gun violence victims – even when gun makers and sellers act negligently.
That’s why I’m taking the fight directly to them and just introduced The Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act , which would give victims and their families the right to hold gun manufacturers accountable just like every other American industry – and force them to make their products safer.
Unlike every other major industry, the gun industry has a broad liability shield. That must change.
The reality is that if you're worried about getting sued, you'll make products safer and take more care when you sell them. And when you're talking about a product that literally kills, that's a good thing.
This is how we can take them on. Because we know the NRA and other elements of the gun lobby only care about dues and profits – not the safety of our loved ones. Our communities. Or our children.
Sensible gun legislation is the right thing to do and the popular thing to do – even among gun owners. And with President Biden’s endorsement of the repeal of immunity called for in my bill, we have an important chance to pass it. Finally.
But winning won’t be easy. The NRA may be headed for bankruptcy, but it won't go down without a fight. And they will do anything and everything to ensure my bill doesn’t pass. That’s why I need your help.
Join me in taking the fight to the gun lobby. Add your name as a citizen co-sponsor of my bill, The Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act, and let’s show the NRA our strength. [[link removed]]

It’s long past time to hold the gun industry legally accountable when they are negligent and their guns cause death and misery. It’s common sense. And it’s the right thing to do.
Let’s keep fighting to make our communities safe.
