Hello!

Welcome to my latest e-bulletin, where I'll be updating you on the recent goings on in our area and in Westminster. It has been another busy month since I was last in touch with you. Very sadly, we said goodbye to Her Majesty the Queen's husband, His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh.

But we've also seen further lifting of Covid restrictions and a bumper round of vaccinations, as well as the 'Super Thursday' local elections!
Thank you!
Thank you for all your support!

THANK YOU to everyone who came out to vote to re-elect our fantastic local councillors. Thanks to you we have kept our hardworking Conservative councillors in position for our area.

I've been out and about speaking to the community on their door steps over the last month with our councillor and mayoral candidates and our current councillors.

Volunteers across Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Bramhall, Gatley, Heald Green, Stepping Hill and Woodford have been working hard spreading the good news about the work our Conservative leaders do, too.

I look forward to working with our local Conservatives - continuing to protect our green spaces, back our high streets and much, much, more.

We've been allocated more than £14 million altogether!

Postmasters

I was pleased to hear that judges have quashed the conviction of 39 former sub-postmasters. This injustice has been ongoing for more than 20 years, with over 700 prosecutions based on false evidence. This judgement is a vindication of the sub-postmasters’ long fight.

With key evidence coming from a whistleblower, this case has highlighted the importance of their role in shining a torch on the secrets and cover ups at the heart of so many scandals like this. You can read more about this case on my website here ([link removed]) .
The Domestic Abuse Bill is now law, protecting victims nationwide!
Protecting victims of domestic violence

It is fantastic news that the Domestic Abuse Bill is now law. We have passed this legislation to protect victims and punish offenders.

This new law expands the definition of domestic abuse, and goes much further to protect victims of violent, controlling and coercive behaviour. A new offence will also put a penalty of 5 years imprisonment for strangulation - and we've ended the 'rough sex' defence which abusers have hidden behind for too long.

This is in addition to us outlawing upskirting, ensuring that stalking is an offence, criminalising revenge porn and introducing measures that make it easier and safer for victims to give evidence in court. Domestic violence is a horrific crime, and we won't ever stop protecting people who are victims of it.
Clare is one of many vendors who have been able to return to the markets over the last month
Worker Bee Markets are back!

I was so pleased to see the Worker Bee Market back at Bramhall at the start of May. I've certainly missed Clare's delicious lemon drizzle cake! The market have now safely reopened and you can visit it monthly in Bramhall and other locations across Stockport Borough.

My Views

In addition to regular casework correspondence, I receive a number of campaign emails and postcards each month regarding various topics. While I always prefer to get back to people directly in the first instance, each month I publish these views on my website. You can read these here ([link removed]) .

Surgeries

I hold regular surgeries both at my office in Cheadle Hulme and around the constituency. In-person surgeries are suspended at the moment in the light of the current situation. However, my team and I will be assisting on all enquiries so please do continue to get in touch with us.
Thank you for taking the time to read my latest e-newsletter. As ever, if there are any issues you'd like to raise with me then please do get in touch.
