College Signing Celebration for 31 AHC Students Thirty-one excited high school seniors, along with mentors and families, gathered at Gates of Ballston for a college signing celebration on Friday. Students proudly displayed t-shirts representing their college choices as onlookers enthusiastically cheered and clapped. Nearly all are the first in their families to go to college! We are so proud of AHC's College and Career Readiness (CCR) Program's Class of 2021 who have persevered and succeeded despite the pandemic. The group has earned $3M in financial aid, including POSSE, Ron Brown, Questbridge, Amazon Futures, and Jack Kent Cooke scholarships. CCR provides low-income students living in AHC's affordable apartment communities with the tools and one-on-one mentoring support to successfully graduate from high school and go to college or develop a career path. The program is the culmination of AHC’s comprehensive education initiative, which also provides afterschool for elementary students, and tutoring for teens. In response to reports from some residents about unacceptable conditions in several units, AHC Inc. and Drucker & Falk are working closely with the Arlington County Housing Commission, County officials, and community organizations, to ensure that residents’ concerns are not only heard but addressed effectively and efficiently. As such, Drucker & Falk has begun conducting inspections at each of Serrano’s 280 apartments to document and remediate all identified issues. As pandemic restrictions are lifted, we look forward to making these repairs more quickly and will continue to update all parties involved on our progress. Having served Arlington County for over 45 years, we remain committed to the Serrano’s long-term success and dedicated to ensuring comfortable and welcoming homes for all our residents. Spire Grand Opening on Thursday, May 20 - Join Us for the Virtual Celebration Noon to 12:30PM With families moving in and new landscaping beginning to bloom, it's time to celebrate The Spire - 113 new affordable apartments in the City of Alexandria. Program includes Congressman Don Beyer, City of Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson, and Episcopal Church of the Resurrection Reverend Jo Belser. We will also tour the building and take a peak at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection's new worship space next to our apartment community. AHC is excited about starting a more robust Resident Services program at the Shelton/Macedonian to build on established programs like backpack distributions. New Resident Services Program in Green Valley AHC is proud to announce a new onsite Resident Services program at The Shelton and The Macedonian, which together serve 130 families in Arlington's Green Valley neighborhood. Recent programming included a "Workforce Bootcamp" workshop series in partnership with Leadership Arlington. The program focused on building financial literacy, resume/interviewing skills, and Zoom tips. Participants will also have an opportunity to meet with an employment specialist from Bridges to Independence. We are also planning to provide a variety of education programs for students at the site. The Shelton/Macedonian site builds on the long-time Resident Services program at nearby Fort Henry Gardens. Webdale, and Haley Norris. Arlington View Terrace East Breaks Ground The redevelopment of Arlington View Terrace is underway! The $39 million project is located on the eastern end of Columbia Pike. The current community includes 77 apartments spread out among seven two- and three-story buildings. The Arlington View Terrace East redevelopment is demolishing the largest of the structures, which currently includes 30 homes, and replacing it with a new Energy Star Certified & EarthCraft Certified Gold structure with 77 apartments. The new property will include extensive green design elements, including rooftop solar panels, and free WiFi for each apartment. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by local leaders, including Virginia State Delegate Alfonso Lopez and Arlington County Board members Matt de Ferranti and Katie Cristol.
