During the past week, Hamas—the terrorist group ruling Gaza—has fired thousands of rockets at Israeli towns and cities, placing millions of Israelis in grave danger. As of this writing, ten Israeli civilians have been killed. Hundreds more are wounded.
On top of the physical assault, we are also witnessing an assault on truth in the public arena. Too many news outlets, social media influencers, members of Congress, and even celebrities are portraying Israel as the instigator, the aggressor. All for having the audacity to defend itself against a terror group committed to its destruction.
But we know the truth. Israel does not seek violence. It has always sought peace—and achieved it with several of its neighbors. Forced into this latest escalation by Hamas incitement, Israel protects its citizens and sovereignty while taking every possible measure to avoid Palestinian deaths. By contrast, Hamas will go to any length to murder Israeli civilians, including putting Palestinian civilians in harm’s way.
American Jewish Committee (AJC) has been there throughout, standing up for Israel’s right to exist in peace and security—just as we have done every day since the establishment of the Jewish state. As we mourn the loss of innocent life, both Israeli and Palestinian, and pray for a swift end to this flare-up, we will continue to do all that we can to support the Jewish homeland.
We know that you want to be there for Israel too. Here are several things you can do right now to help strengthen Israel and show our Israeli brothers and sisters that they are not alone. Advocate for Legislation That Targets Hamas:
AJC has been advocating for bipartisan legislation in Congress that cuts off Hamas’s terror funding. Go to AJC.org/StopHamas to urge your U.S. Representative to back the Palestinian International Terrorism Support Prevention Act (H.R.261). [link removed] Push Back Against Misinformation:
AJC has been calling out members of Congress, celebrities, reporters, and others in positions of power who spread anti-Israel propaganda and lies. The public needs to know the truth.
