Help stop The McConnell Strategy » [[link removed]]

A longtime advisor to Mitch McConnell wrote: “HR 1 is without a doubt the worst piece of legislation I've ever laid eyes upon.” We are going to set the record straight.

For the record, here are some highlights of the For the People Act, a bill that will expand access to voting and strengthen our democracy:
→ increasing early voting and extending polling hours
→ expanding access to voting-by-mail
→ implementing automatic voter registration nationwide
→ outlawing partisan congressional gerrymandering
→ limiting unfettered voter roll purges

In contrast, these are some lowlights of the provisions being pushed (and passed!) in state legislatures to restrict access to voting:

-- Florida’s SB 90 -- makes voter registration and voting-by-mail more difficult
-- Texas’s HB 6 -- would embolden partisan poll “watchers” and restrict access to absentee voting
-- Georgia’s SB 202 -- restricts absentee voting and prohibits giving voters food and drinks in a state that has seen notoriously long lines for elections

A.G. Holder said these bills continue to show that conservatives' only concern is maintaining power -- even if it comes at the expense of our democracy. He believes these bills are “an appalling attempt by Republicans to construct deliberate barriers to voting that target people they perceive to be their political enemies.”

We’ll let you be the judge of which bills you think are worse for democracy. But if you want to help stop disinformation and fight to get the For the People Act passed, can we ask you to chip in today? [[link removed]]

We are up against some tough forces. But we will keep facing the same obstacles and obstruction every time we want to make progress, unless we pass comprehensive democracy reforms.
