Elizabeth Warren is constantly reminding us that she is a leader the progressive movement can be proud of. The latest example? Sen. Warren is taking a stand against the extreme power that Facebook wields in our society and how their lack of accountability is so detrimental to America.
“The issue is that we now have this corporation that is so giant, that is so powerful, it even names its review board the Supreme Court … This means we've got a corporation more powerful than government.” -- Sen. Elizabeth Warren
The review board Sen. Warren mentioned is an internal group that Facebook appointed to decide whether or not to reinstate Donald Trump's accounts after he was indefinitely suspended for inciting the Jan. 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
While they temporarily kept Trump's ban in place, Sen. Warren's point is invaluable. The reality is that this internal review board has no accountability for its decisions to the American people and could change its decision any day.
With the platform that Facebook and Instagram provide, Trump would undoubtedly use his reinstated accounts to sow chaos and violence across our country once again.
The Democratic Party needs more strong, progressive voices like Elizabeth Warren to tell the truth about the threat that Facebook and other unregulated big tech companies pose to our democracy.
