John: Not sure if you heard, but this past week was Police Week.
This past week I had the opportunity to speak with Officer Michael Fanone — one of the officers who risked their life to defend me and my colleagues from violent, Trump-provoked insurrectionists on January 6.
I’ll be honest — that was one of the scariest days of my life. I texted my family to tell them that I loved them because I didn’t know where the day’s events would lead. And Officer Fanone was one of the brave men and women who defended us when the Capitol was under attack.
When I chatted with Officer Fanone the other day, he told me something really disheartening. He tried to contact House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy multiple times to tell him about what he experienced on January 6. And each time he’s tried to reach out, he’s been ignored.
John, is this how we treat the men and women who make daily sacrifices to protect us? As the son of a former Police Chief, I know what it’s like to wonder if your family member will return home safely.
The truth is, Kevin is too preoccupied with defending the GOP’s rhetoric that January 6 was “just another day of tourism” at the Capitol to meet with an officer who protected his life that very day.
The GOP’s priorities are misaligned. Can you join me in the fight against their misinformation and lies?
