Although we have seen this administration set America’s most ambitious climate goals to date, government policy alone simply cannot get us all the way there. These next five years demand immediate, expansive changes to our entire economy — as well as a renewal of our global leadership position — if we hope to preserve a liveable planet for our children.
This moment also provides incredible opportunities for growth, innovation, and equity. With intelligent public policy, such as the American Jobs Plan, the government can set important benchmarks and investments that will ensure private industry has the appropriate incentives in place to move us forward in an equitable way that everyone benefits from.
America has a long history of successful public-private partnerships. This type of cooperation allowed us to transform our industries during World War II and proved vital to our eventual victory. Thanks to massive coordination across multiple industries, we landed the first humans on the moon with the Apollo program. Even the accelerated development and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines illustrates the tremendous potential of our private industries,
as long as public policy adequately leads.
