Friend,
My daughter Ava is 6 years old.
The decisions we make right now will decide if she has to feel scared walking by a police officer. If she gets profiled because of the color of her skin. If she has to hear the name of another kid that looks like her who’s been shot by the police.
Ava shouldn’t have to worry about a racist system that puts her life in danger.
I’ve laid out a plan to tackle this crisis. It includes investments in unarmed civil servants who will take over responsibilities like traffic enforcement and mental health crisis intervention. I’ve called for an end to qualified immunity that protects police from being held accountable for wrongdoing. I’ve successfully fought to keep armed police officers out of our public schools. I’ve emphasized the need to invest in mental health, housing, and education rather than prisons, police, and incarceration.
There’s so much more we could be doing to stop police brutality. So much more we have to be doing. We owe it to George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. We owe it to ourselves. We owe it to Ava.
We need to elect politicians who understand the gravity of this crisis. Virginians are already voting in this race. Now is the time to support my campaign, so that we can win this primary and take bold criminal justice and police reform policies to Richmond in November.

I’m in this race because I know we need elected officials who will take bold action to end police brutality. I’ve listened to communities of color and I’ve proposed policies that tackle the problems head on. We can’t wait any longer.
In solidarity,
Sean Perryman
