HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD

My dad has been gone nearly 12 years now. Today would have been his 98th
birthday. When I was little girl, he used to always tell me not to worry
about him. He'd live to be a hundred. I'm still a little miffed about
that, because I sure would have given a lot to have 14 more years with
him.

My dad was a quiet man. A man of deep faith. A kind person who reminded
me you never knew what made people the way that they are. Many of you
may not realize that I'm adopted, and I certainly hit the parental
lottery. I would not be the person I am today without the people who
raised me.

My dad's take on the world was that you just had to keep grinnin' and
keep goin'. It would confuse your enemies and it couldn't help but make
you feel better. He was a voracious reader, a generous giver, and a
wonderful father.

A little clip from my bio is a story about a visit I had with my dad the
last time I saw him alive - he died later that night. He kept asking me,
"You know I love you, right?" He wanted to be sure that I knew. I
convinced him that I knew. 

He also asked me what I was going to do with the rest of my life. I
said, "I'm going to be a writer, dad. I've always told you that."

He shook his head sadly and said, "No, you're not."

I was shocked and horrified, and not just a little bit hurt. "What do
you mean? Of course, I am!"

He said, "No. Writers write. You just talk about writing."

Over the next year, while trying to process the death of my beloved
father, his words kept ringing in my ears. When my life changed and I
got the opportunity to take a writing job, I jumped at it, even though
it was the kind of job that would make most people think I was crazy.

And I've been writing ever since.

So, Dad, if you happen to be watching, you were right, and I am writing.
Thank you for that last, precious lesson you gave me. Happy birthday,
and I love you.

What I've Been Reading

 

The attacks in Israel and Gaza take on a more personal meaning for me
right now, as a dear friend's son is in Jerusalem at a kibbutz. (I hope
I worded that correctly.) The horror of Facetiming your 118-year-old who
is in a bomb shelter and hearing the blasts going on is hard to fathom.
This isn't me taking sides on the conflict in any way. I just hope my
friend gets her beautiful, innocent son home safely and that other
mothers and fathers get to stop mourning their children.

India's second wave of Covid has been far more horrifying and deadly
than the first wave. This article

In the prepper world, here are five things you should NOT waste your
money on.

The fuel pipeline issue is resolved, but gas is still hard to come by in
some places in the east. And...for some reason, the price keeps going
up. Here's an article that explains why.

This fuel issue is just a small glimpse at what we could be facing with
our vulnerable infrastructure.

According to the President, here's the new rule on Covid, etc. Get a
vaccine or wear a mask until you do.

Hey, y'all. It's me again, your Endgame Documentary

I've never been a fear-based prepper. I don't want to scare you into
getting prepared - I want to encourage you to ensure a safer and more
secure future.

But things are getting crazier by the week. I´m not trying to scare
you, but someone needs to be saying these things.

Our country is more divided and chaotic than ever, and we're sitting
on top of a precarious bubble that will pop at any moment.

We have an entire generation of children who are behind in school and
traumatized - what do they have to look forward to now?

We have a nation divided along racial lines - and a media that is
pushing the narrative (from both sides) that we can't trust one
another anymore.

We have smart investors abandoning the dollar in droves - choosing
instead to turn to cryptos which will only accelerate our currency
devaluation.

Our infrastructure is not only vulnerable to hackers, it's falling apart
- weeks without power during wildfire season in California - no heat and
water during a freeze in Texas - a huge crack in the I-40 bridge across
the Mississippi River.

We have increased hostility from China - and our own tech giants are
designing the software that they use to keep a tyrannical iron grip on
their population.

And if you speak up about any of this, what's the response? Shut up
racist... you're in social media jail... believe in science and line
up for your shot...

What is the End Game in all this? Do you have your plan in place? Not
sure where to start?

Believe me, your awareness level already puts you ten steps ahead of the
masses.
