Republicans are on the warpath. Since the 2020 election, they have been obsessively passing voter suppression bills to target communities of color and prevent voters from getting to the polls.

The voter suppression bill signed into law by Brian Kemp right here in Georgia served as the blueprint for over 400 voter suppression bills across the country.

Georgia’s voter suppression bill:
🛑 Practically eliminates drop boxes
🛑 Creates stricter ID requirements for absentee ballots
🛑 Gives voters less time to request absentee ballots
🛑 Offers the Republican-controlled legislature more control over the State Election Board
🛑 Even makes it illegal to give food and water to voters waiting in line at polling places

This is unacceptable. Congress has the opportunity to overturn Georgia’s voter suppression bill, and prevent hundreds more like it, by passing HR 1, the For the People Act and HR 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

But in 2013, the Supreme Court gutted the 1965 Voting Rights Act — making voter suppression bills like Georgia’s possible and gutting so much of the work Congressman John Lewis fought for. The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act would restore full protections created under the original, bipartisan Voting Rights Act and prevent more voter suppression bills.

Republicans refuse to stand up for our right to vote. Republicans saw what happens when voters turn out in historic numbers — Democrats win.
