John -- We’ve told you that state legislators have introduced a whopping 361 voter suppression bills this year. Now I have an alarming update: Those bills are getting passed into law.

Twelve states have already enacted 26 laws to restrict the vote, according to Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight and CNN.

Laws enacted: Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Montana, Utah, Wyoming

Bills close to passage: Texas, Ohio

I won't mince words: The situation is dire. If we don't have the resources to stop these bills -- for example by passing the federal For the People Act -- our system of free elections could be over. That’s not hyperbole. A.G. Holder even said, “If we are not successful... I am really worried our democracy will be fundamentally and irreparably harmed.”

So what do we do? We fight:

★ By pushing for passage of the For the People Act harder than ever
★ By working with partners to help kill the next batch of state-level voter suppression bills
★ By doing everything we can to stop Republicans from gerrymandering during 2021 redistricting -- because rigged maps on top of voter suppression would be an even bigger disaster

And to do all that, we have to hit our $50,000 mid-month goal. I don't want to scare you but this could really be our last chance to save American democracy. Will you do your part by pitching in now?

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help,
Ben
