John --

The Republican Party is continuing to aggressively push its culture war narrative. The latest front? South Dakota, where Governor Kristi Noem is attacking the education system.

Gov. Noem recently signed a pledge seeking to restore “patriotic education” in South Dakota schools. This follows in the mold of the 1776 Commission that Donald Trump created in his last months in office. The new curriculum changes would restore “honest, patriotic education” that cultivates “a profound love” for the country in children -- while ignoring the worst sides of American history.

The pledge signed by Gov. Noem smacks of the kind of ideological purity that defined McCarthyism in American in the 1950s. That era was notoriously friendly to racist, xenophobic, and anti-semitic politicians under the guise of anti-communism.

We look back on that time in our history with shame, but if we let actions like the ones taken by Gov. Noem go unchallenged, we could find ourselves repeating those mistakes. It's crucial that we continue to support Democratic candidates with diverse backgrounds across America who know what's at stake when we play these dangerous games of politicizing the education of our children.

The education of our kids is far too important to play games with. With your help, we'll make sure that far-right idealogues like Kristi Noem never see their plans come to pass. Thanks.
