John,

Today I’m outside of the Texas 10th, but inside the struggle for a better Texas.

We are walking the picket line with the United Auto Workers, Local 276, here in Arlington, where nearly 5,000 workers are on strike against General Motors.

Our UAW brothers and sisters are on strike for basic dignity. These are workers who helped General Motors get out of bankruptcy in 2007 by accepting temporary concessions – which GM promised would soon end. But since 2016, GM has taken over $35 billion in North American profits, and has paid billions to shareholders and executives, but it has failed to make its workers whole, as promised.

The importance of the UAW strike to Texas cannot be overstated. In a “right to work” region, GM Arlington is a rare unionized auto plant. Arlington workers are striking with 50,000 GM workers nationwide, and they are doing it in a most unforgiving environment. They deserve our unwavering support.

I’m running for Congress because I believe that unions are essential to the movement for progressive change. If you’d like to join us in supporting UAW workers in Arlington, please send us a note. And if you are not here in Texas, please work through your local labor organizations and show solidarity with UAW locals across the country.

With you in the struggle,
Mike Siegel
